Facial Hair Friday, #71: TRAILER PARK

14 Dec

Several very impressive looking trailers debuted this week.  And all of them had at least a little bit of facial hair in them.  Around here, that’s enough of an excuse to post almost anything.

So, here’s Morgan Freeman, and he has a beard.  This is from the trailer to the new film Oblivion.  It stars Freeman and Tom Cruise, and its directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy).

He looks pretty awesome there.  And the movie looks pretty awesome as well.  Its been a long time since I was excited about a Tom Cruise movie, but a cool looking sci-fi movie that’s not a remake or a reboot or a sequel definitely grabs my attention.  Here’s the trailer:

And that’s just the first trailer we got this week.  There’s also a new Guillermo del Toro film coming out about giant robots fighting kaiju (giant monsters typically seen in Japanese movies).  That is the exact movie I have been wanting to see.  And its being made by the exact director I would choose to make it.  And it stars Idris Elba, who is the man I would want to star in almost anything.  Its called Pacific Rim.  Watch this:

Did you notice Idris Elba has a moustache?  He does.

Finally, we got to see a full length trailer for Man of Steel.  I was very skeptical about this film.  I like everyone involved in it, and I love Superman.  But Hollywood hasn’t done Superman right since Richard Donner was at the helm.  Superman is a great character if the right people are running the show, but in the movies and the comics, if you don’t handle him right then it all falls apart.  He’s almost invincible.  He’s a perfect boyscout.  He can do just about anything he sets his mind to.  That can all lead to some incredibly boring stories.  And I was very worried that was what we would be getting from this movie.

However, I have now seen the trailer, and my confidence is restored.

Also, Superman has a sweet beard in that trailer.

It was a great week for trailers, and a pretty good one for facial hair.
